At Geonis Mech. Contracting Ltd. the safety of our employees
and the public is our primary concern. Geonis Mech. Contracting Ltd. will make
every effort to provide a safe and healthy workplace. All supervisors and
workers must be dedicated to the continuing effort of reducing and/or
eliminating injury or loss.
It is our Commitment to provide a safe and healthy work
environment by reducing hazards that cause accidents and injuries.
We believe that each employee is responsible for recognizing
the need to comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as other
construction regulations. Employees shall be competent and able to take
necessary precautions, and act in a safe manner, when performing respected
duties.
It is our goal to implement and maintain a safety plan that
is easily understood and followed not only by our employees, but by our
sub-contractors also.
Compliance with this policy is mandatory. Willful violation
of this policy will be considered cause for discipline and/or request for
dismissal.

Each and every employee of Geonis Mech. Contracting Ltd. is
responsible for maintaining the current health & safety standards and
regulations set out in this policy. The responsibilities mentioned in this
section should be recognized and followed to maintain an accident and injury
free workplace.
i) The Contractor/Employer will:
-
monitor the safety policy and program on a regular basis to
determine any necessary corrective action
-
demonstrate the importance of safety through personal
example
-
provide safe tools and equipment for use
-
personally inspect the job site to ensure it is
well-ordered and safety requirements are met
-
meet with the site supervisor to review safety on a regular
basis
-
ensure that employee training is up to date with current
codes and regulations
ii) The Supervisor shall:
-
be responsible for on-site safety
-
ensure before the job starts that all safety equipment,
first aid kits, and the proper tools and materials are current and readily
available when required
-
plan before the job starts for safe methods dealing with
hazardous parts of the job
-
warn the workers of any hazardous part of their job and
show them how to handle the situation
-
ensure that workers properly use and maintain personal
protective equipment, such as safety boots, protective eyewear and headwear
-
inspect the job site daily
-
report immediately any serious accidents, falls or
electrical contact as required by the OHSA and Regulations
-
investigate all accidents and submit a detailed report of
causes and preventative steps taken to management
-
ensure that all injuries are treated promptly and the
proper procedures followed
-
ensure that all sub-contractors are working safely at all
time
-
keep safety highly visible on all sites
-
maintain and follow the standards of the OHSA
iii) The Worker Shall:
-
advise his supervisor immediately of any unsafe condition
or action on the job site
-
work in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA and
applicable regulations
-
use personal protective equipment at all times to ensure
the safety of the worker when performing specified tasks
-
report to the supervisor any and all injuries or incidents
-
report to the supervisor any hazards that may exist on the
job site
-
ask questions if unsure on how to handle situations that
have arisen
-
co-operate with Ministry of Labour inspectors, Geonis
Health & Safety Representatives, Supervisors and Management who are attempting
to maintain a healthy and safe workplace
iv) The Sub-contractor shall:
-
before commencing work, shall read and sign the
sub-contractor agreement statement acknowledging our company’s policy
-
read and follow the Jobsite Owner’s, Geonis Mech.
Contracting Ltd., and the General contractor’s policies and procedures
including regulations set out by the OHSA and the CSAO
-
use personal protective equipment or clothing required of
your trade or Geonis Mech. Contracting Ltd.
-
attend site safety meetings as requested
-
ask project supervisor for information and/or direction if
in doubt as to a course of action
-
all sub-contractors, who are working on our projects, must
report any and all accidents immediately to our job-site supervisor or our
Health & Safety Representative
v) The Health and Safety Representative shall:
-
perform site inspections, with the knowledge of the company
-
help resolve disputes in matters pertaining to the safety
of our employees
-
assist in investigating serious incidents
-
aid supervisors, workers, and Ministry of Labour
representatives whenever necessary
-
require full cooperation with management and workers in
order to be successful in creating a safe and healthy work environment
